ImpSpin | Development of a sensory spindle for machine tools based on rolling bearing impedance measurements
In the "ImpSpin" funding project, a continuous, digital value chain for machine tools is being investigated and developed, which is based on the Digitisation of the motor spindle based. For this purpose, a motor spindle is equipped with sensors to measure the electrical impedance of the spindle bearings so that, among other things, spindle collisions and the condition of the lubrication can be monitored. The emerging ecosystem is based on a continuous data concept from the Sensor, about the Edge Device through to processing in the Cloud and is intended to enable new business models. The aim of these business models is to reduce costs for all stakeholders, improve quality and contribute to a sustainable increase in material, resource and energy efficiency. In addition to optimMEAS GmBH, the project consortium consists of the following project partners PTW of the TU Darmstadt, Christ Feinmechanik GmbH & Co. KG, Datron AG and the subject area PMD of the TU Darmstadt.
Initial situation
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular are experiencing challenges in the current crises due to fluctuating demand, short planning horizons and increasing technological advances by large companies with regard to trend topics such as digitalisation and CO2-neutral production. At the same time, there is high price pressure with growing customer expectations of the product-service bundle. In this context, R&D activities are of central importance in order to be able to offer customers the best possible products and services. Combination of innovative products and services to be able to offer as unique a benefit as possible. The offer Data-based functions and services can make the difference here compared to the competitors.
Objective
The aim of the project is to collect the data along the Data value chain of the machine tool. In the process, the data passes through various stages from generation and acquisition to the provision of information for business decisions, thus increasing its value. The system to be developed Business model enables every participant to use data or information at any point in the value chain. At the same time, users and data providers retain full cost control. Various technologies are used for the implementation, such as a subscription solution or billing according to runtime or data volume. The revenue and cost model is aimed at a clear and transparent cost structure, quantifiable financial benefit of all stakeholders.
Procedure
In the course of the project, the concrete Needs of the companies will be examined. Subsequently, proof of function at system level will be provided and validated for the digital product of the sensory motor spindle, including the business models and associated digital services. For the next step of the implementation of the digital product in customer applications, it is particularly important to Interoperability, Data security and the Reliability essential, as existing functions must not be negatively influenced during operation. With the successful implementation and validation, the system is to be transferred to other machines in order to Scaling the digital product.
